Pass database credential to sub report under the Custom report in Sage MAS 500

By | May 25, 2017

There was a very unique but interesting requirement from one of our clients recently; the issue is client had developed number of custom report with subreport on their test database system and their test database name was different with their production system so whenever they deploy all custom report with subreport, they got database name issue while printing a subreport because test database name was hardcode into the crystal reports.

The requirement is client need to resolve the issue for existing custom report with subreport bypassing database credential automatically to crystal report based on the existing user login.

Basically, in Sage MAS 500 there is no option is present for automatically passing database credential to subreport for a custom report which is design at the client side.

To achieve this requirement, what we did we incorporated the changes into the standard exe “SMZRN001.exe” for passing database credential to subreport at runtime.

By using this utility, a user will be able to use the subreport option into the custom report which they can design the custom report into own Organization.

It would be interesting to know if this kind of functionality is required by others as well.
