In Sage Intacct; Dimension Structures assists you to organize your dimensional data on financial reports.<\/p>\n

In last blog<\/a>; we created Dimension groups (Customers) with which we were able to categorize our customers by Customer types \u2013 Residential, Corporate and Commercial. Now you have a requirement to show the sales by customer types.<\/p>\n

In this blog we will create a simple financial report (Sales by Customer types) by using dimension structures.<\/p>\n

Dimension structures are built from dimension groups. It is important to understand here that; dimension group dynamically filters the data and dimension structures are setup to represent the dimension data on the rows or columns on financial reports.<\/p>\n

Dimension structure type can be flat or hierarchical. Here flat type is essentially a groups with which you can shows the members of a dimension. Whereas with hierarchical structure you can include other dimension structures with which you can show groupings and sub totals on your reports.<\/p>\n

To accomplish the reporting example in this blog we will create flat dimension structures (customers).<\/p>\n

Here we have created different customer report structures as per customer groups.<\/p>\n

See below we created customer report structure called Commercial Customers. In this particular report structure we have assigned customer group \u2013 Commercial customers. This will allow the structure to list all the dimension members from the particular dimension group. Similarly create other report structures.<\/p>\n

Now let\u2019s create a financial report which will used above created customer report structures.<\/p>\n

Setup a new financial report with Report structure as Dimensions.<\/p>\n

On the Rows add the required dimension structures (Customers).<\/p>\n

On Columns add Account group \u2013 Sales. Reporting period is Current year to date.<\/p>\n

Finally save and run the report.<\/p>\n

As we can see here; the report shows different types of customers. The dimension members are classified and filtered using Dimension group; so we can see relevant dimension members \u2013 customers. The next column shows Sales (YTD) by a customer.<\/p>\n
