One of its strongest features is the ability to customize transaction screens without heavy coding through Entry Transactions.

Almost every major document in Sage X3 — Sales Quotes, Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Invoices, Stock Changes, Receipts, Deliveries, etc. — can be controlled through Entry Transactions. Using these setups, consultants and administrators can decide which fields should appear, whether they should be enterable, displayed only, or hidden, and most importantly, where those fields should be visible on the screen.

In real projects, a very common observation is that some fields appear only when the user opens the detail line popup (Form view), but are completely missing from the main grid (Table view). Many users and even some consultants get confused by this behavior.

The control for this behavior lies in three simple but powerful options available in the Entry Transaction setup:

Form and table

Form

Table

In this blog, we will understand these options in detail, see a real-life example, and learn how to configure them correctly.

What are Form, Table, and Form & Table Options?

In Sage X3, line-level data (detail lines) can be viewed in two different ways:

Table Mode (Grid View)
This is the main grid where multiple lines are displayed in a tabular format. It is designed for fast data entry and overview.

Form Mode (Popup / Detail View)
When you right-click on a line or use the action menu and select “Popup view” / “Detail”, the system opens a form-style window showing all the fields of that particular line. This view can hold more fields without cluttering the main grid.

The three options control in which of these two views a field will be visible:

Option

Visible in Main Grid (Table)

Visible in Popup (Form)

Recommended Use Case

Form and table

Yes

Yes

Most important fields that users need in both views

Form

No

Yes

Secondary or detailed fields that should not clutter the grid

Table

Yes

No

Fields useful only for quick overview in the grid

Recently, while working on a Sales Quote screen, we observed an interesting behavior.

On the Sales Quote entry screen, the field Standard description was not visible in the main detail lines grid. However, when the user opened the popup/detail view of any line, the same field was clearly available and enterable.

After checking the Entry Transaction setup (Setup → Sales → Entry transactions → Quotes), we found that the Standard description field was set to Form.

Because of this setting:

The field was hidden from the main grid (Table mode)

The field was visible only in the popup form view

This is a perfect real-world example of how the Form / Table options control field visibility.

New Stuff :

Figure 1- Sales Detail Line Without Standard Description

Figure 02 – Sales Quote Detail Line Pop up View With Standard Description

How to Configure These Options – Step by Step

1.Navigate to the Entry Transaction setup – Setup → Sales → Entry transactions → Quotes
(Replace “Quotes” with Orders, Invoices, Stock change, etc. as per your requirement) Select the required Entry Transaction (for example: ALL or any custom transaction)

2.Go to the relevant tab:
o Header fields → Header tab

3.Locate the field you want to control (for example: Standard description).
