URA Introduces EFRIS System for Seamless Electronic Invoicing

The Electronic Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) is an automated compliance solution created by the URA to enhance the management and centralized monitoring of invoices and receipts for certain taxpayers in Uganda. Aimed at improving the business landscape, EFRIS utilizes Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs), e invoicing, and direct integration with business transaction systems to enable the issuance of electronic invoices as mandated by the Tax Procedures Code Act of 2014. When a transaction occurs, the details are sent to the URA in real time to produce e-invoices.

How Einvoicing Works in Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)

Under the Tax Procedure Act of 2014, the nationwide Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) was introduced. This system comprises three main components.
By logging into the customer application on the URA web portal, users can securely issue electronic tax documents at no cost. The validity of these records can be verified using the URA verification app or a QR reader.
This system, comprising a networked point-of-sale (POS) system and a virtual Sales Data Controller (SDC), enables the creation of electronic receipts and invoices. It includes a secure component that transmits financial information to the EFRIS system. Additionally, it facilitates the retrieval of financial data and the generation of transaction reports.
This component is designed to manage fuel and petrol stations. Special devices monitor and calculate the capacity of fuel pumps in real-time, ensuring efficient operations. This information is transmitted to the EFDs to generate electronic receipts.
