A GUMU customer recently approached us with a requirement to evaluate profitability directly while creating quotes in Sage CRM. They wanted clear visibility into both item-level and overall quote margins, using real-time cost data pulled from Sage 100.

Most quoting tools focus on selling price, but profit is equally important. Sales teams often run into questions like:
- Is this quote profitable after applying discounts?
- Which products carry lower margins?
- How does a change in pricing impact overall profitability?
- What is the real cost of the item from Sage 100 right now?
The Profitability Check customization addresses this need by delivering clear, real-time margin insights directly within Sage CRM—without exposing cost information to the user.
We introduced a new column in the Quote Item grid to display the Profit Margin % for each line item. This gives sales representatives an immediate understanding of how profitable each product is — even after applying discounts.

Beyond item-level visibility, we’ve also added a new field on the Quote Summary screen that displays the overall profitability % for the entire quote.
This gives decision-makers a clear, consolidated view of:
- Total selling amount
- Final profit margin for the full quote
With this summary insight, management can easily determine whether a quote aligns with internal profitability guidelines before giving approval.

Instead of relying on automatic recalculations—which can sometimes lead to confusion—we’ve given users full control over when profitability is updated. The Check Profitability button recalculates both:
- Line-level margin %, and
- Overall quote margin %
This lets sales teams:
- Adjust items or discounts
- Manually trigger a fresh profitability check
- Ensure all displayed margins remain accurate and current
To support this workflow, the system also shows a helpful reminder whenever line items are modified, prompting users to click the button to refresh profitability values.

Profitability is only as reliable as the cost data behind it. To maintain complete accuracy, this customization retrieves item cost directly from Sage 100 in real time whenever a product is added to a quote.
