Sage has confirmed that every edition of Sage BusinessVision will reach End of Life (EOL) on December 31, 2026. After that date, Sage will no longer issue software updates, fixes, security patches, payroll calculations, compliance updates, or technical support for the product.
For distributors, manufacturers, and wholesalers who have run their financials on BusinessVision for fifteen or twenty years, this is the most consequential announcement the product has had. It is also, in our experience, the one most likely to be misread — because the software itself does not switch off.
December 31, 2026 does not mean your BusinessVision software suddenly stops working. It means Sage stops maintaining and supporting it. That distinction matters.
“After thorough consideration and strategic planning, Sage has decided to retire all editions of Sage BV, effective December 31, 2026.”
The official announcement and timeline are published on the Sage Community Hub, in the Sage BusinessVision announcements forum, and the customer FAQ is maintained in the Sage Knowledgebase.
Greytrix has been migrating data off Sage’s legacy ERP for over a decade through our Sage Migration Centre, into Sage X3, Sage Intacct, Sage 100, Sage 300, and Sage 500.
What “End of Life” actually means for a BusinessVision user
‘End of Life’ (EOL) is a product lifecycle term that marks the end of vendor support, not the moment the software stops running. It is important to be precise, because the two most common reactions we hear—”we have to replace everything by December” and “nothing happens, so we’ll deal with it later”— are both wrong.
Here is the distinction:
What stops on December 31, 2026:
- Security patches and software fixes
- Payroll calculations, payroll tax tables, and compliance updates
- Technical support from Sage
Vendor-backed compatibility with future operating-system changes The application itself does not stop, nor does access to your existing files, and it will continue to run even after December 31.
The risk extends beyond day one, building over months as unsupported systems lose compatibility. Changes like Windows updates, bank file shifts, CRA rule updates without tables, or workstation failures each pose risks. Alone, survivable; together, without vendor support, they can cause downtime affecting payroll and ledger operations.
Another crucial piece of information shared in Sage’s official customer FAQ is that as of October 1, 2026, BusinessVision support narrows to chat only until the December 31 retirement date. This means the window for a full-service call with Sage about your existing system environment closes about three months before the key date.
Where BusinessVision customers actually go from here
Sage’s official end-of-life guidance names two successor products: Sage 50 Accounting for straightforward small-business accounting, and Sage 300 for more complex requirements. Sage also confirms that conversion tooling exists for the Sage 300 route, and that the migration work itself is carried out by Sage partners rather than by Sage.
In practice, BusinessVision migrations can lead to many destinations. Some of them are set out below.
| Path | Best fit | Key strengths | Deployment |
| Sage 100 | Light-to-mid-market distribution and light manufacturing, typically 5–50 users | Familiar module structure, strong inventory and order management | On-premise or hosted |
| Sage 300 | Multi-entity, multi-currency, and project or job-cost accounting | Most mature migration tooling from BusinessVision | On-premise or hosted |
| Sage X3 | The minority operating across multiple legal entities, plants, or countries | Multi-legislation finance, discrete manufacturing, batch and lot traceability | On-premise or cloud, browser-based |
The Sage 300 route has the most established tooling. Greytrix’s GUMU™ Migration utility is a Sage-certified migration solution. A standard conversion includes GL masters, two years of transaction history, bank masters, open balances, A/P vendors, payables, A/R customers, receivables, open orders with backorders, and inventory masters with on-hand quantities. Items like sales and purchase history, payroll, job cost, BOM, lots, closed orders, bank reconciliation, and custom fields are quoted separately. An assessment determines where your data falls.
Practically, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The right solution depends on your entity structure, transaction volume, customizations, integrations, and five-year plans—not just the product a partner sells.
Why acting now beats waiting
A mid-market ERP migration takes four to nine months; starting now allows a parallel run and a cutover aligned with your fiscal calendar, working backward from the EOL date, which marks about four months, the beginning of that range.
Some factors that make late starts more expensive:
- Compressed projects cost more and deliver less – Data cleansing, historical transactions, and training go first. Those decide whether people trust the new system.
- Emergency migrations remove your choice – A business migrating because something broke takes whatever can be stood up fastest.
Handled early, this is a planned modernization project with a deadline attached, and the first mandatory reason many BusinessVision users have had in two decades to review how their finance and operations stack works.
What to do in the next 30 days
You do not need to choose a platform this month. You do need to be able to answer these:
- What is actually in your BusinessVision environment? Version, user count, active modules, every integration and customization, and who built them.
- Which data has to move, and which can be kept? Master records, open transactions, and history have different migration costs. Decide what genuinely has to move versus what can be archived to a read-only copy.
- Does BusinessVision touch your payroll or compliance reporting? If BusinessVision touches payroll, this is your critical path, not a side item.
- When will you decide, not just go live? Choosing the destination is the long pole. Give it a deadline of its own.
- Have you booked capacity yet? Even if your go-live is late 2026, scoping now protects your place in an implementation queue that will tighten.

FAQS
1. When does Sage BusinessVision reach end of life?
December 31, 2026. Sage has confirmed this applies to all editions of the product.
2. Will BusinessVision stop working on January 1, 2027?
Not necessarily. The software may continue to operate on compatible systems. Support for Business Vision ends on December 31. That means there will be no updates, security patches, payroll or compliance updates, or technical assistance from Sage beyond that date.
3. What happens to BusinessVision payroll after December 31, 2026?
Payroll calculations, tax tables, and compliance updates stop. Any organization running payroll in BusinessVision should treat this as the highest-priority item in its migration plan.
4. What replaces Sage BusinessVision?
There is no single successor. Sage points customers toward Sage 50 Accounting or Sage 300 depending on complexity; in practice, Sage 100, Sage 300, and Sage X3 cover most mid-market BusinessVision environments.
5. How long does a BusinessVision migration take?
Typically, four to nine months from assessment through go-live, depending on data volume, module count, integrations, and customizations.
6. Does my BusinessVision history come with me?
It can. With a certified migration utility, masters, open transactions, and sales, purchase, and GL history can move into the new system. What you migrate versus archive is a scoping decision made early in the project.
