Access frequently used Salesforce pages, Reports, Dashboards and others by using shortcuts

Salesforce with every release has not only been paying attention to the critical issues but is also being busy introducing features to users that would enhance their productivity. With the emergence of Lightning, Salesforce has been trying to implement almost all the features that are present in Salesforce classic along with the advanced features enriching the user experience for the Lightning.

While most users will be familiar about how to customize tab sets in Salesforce classic the new “Favorite” feature in Salesforce Lightning is a treat to users. This feature allows users better navigation by using the “Favorite” option. Just like how search engines keep tab of your previously searched terms in its search bar, the Favorite option stores the most frequently used pages in Salesforce along with this it also allows a quick access to important lists, records, groups, and dashboards based on the search term. Favorite is like speed-dial or bookmark option in your browser, but the best thing about it is that this feature is available across all platforms and in all browsers.

So how to add a page to the Favorite list? As mentioned earlier adding a page to your Favorite list is like adding a page as a bookmark in your browser. Here’s a step by step guide on how to do so-
-> Open the Lightning’s homepage. (For accessing the Lightning feature, please make sure that Lightning is enabled in your respective edition).
-> Visit the respective page that you want to add as a Favorite.
-> Once you are on the page, click on star icon that is present on top right corner of your browser.

-> Now, this page would be added to your Favorite list. This favorite list via drop down is accessible from any page or tab in Salesforce.
-> Example- If you are on your home page and want to access one of your pages from the Favorite list, simply click on the drop down present beside the star icon and click on the respective page.

Favorite list also stores Reports, Dashboards, and Records for quick access. Here’s how you can add a Report or a Dashboard or a record to your favorite list.
-> Again from your homepage visit the respective dashboard.
-> Then, as mentioned above, click on the star icon and the dashboard will be added to your favorite list.

-> The same steps apply for adding records and reports.
-> The items present in the favorite list will show their name, their record type and the name of the app.

Adding dashboard to Favorite list

The Favorite list is accessible from any page and if the star icon appears to be highlighted it represents that the page you are currently viewing is already being added to your favorite list. Although this feature seems to be a boon for a majority of developers and admins. It does have a few limitations.
-> A total of 200 items can be added to your Favorite list. These items are being listed, groups, pages, reports, dashboards and record home pages for standard and custom objects.
-> A favorite list belongs to a single user and can’t be shared among other users.

With this feature, Salesforce has provided users, developers, and admins a tool that can improve their efficiency and help with better navigation without jumping from one app to another.
