Whenever the administrator of a salesforce organization changes the email address of any user, the user receives a notification in the previous email address informing them of the change. In addition to this, an email is sent to the new address asking for confirmation. It is only after the user accepts the change by clicking on a confirmation link in the email that the email address is changed in salesforce.
There is a way in which we can override this confirmation. To do that we need to select the “Generate new password and notify user immediately” checkbox before saving the address change.
If the salesforce administrator selects this checkbox when changing the email address of a user, the user will not receive a mail asking for confirmation. They will receive an email displaying their new email address and a new temporary password.
Using this approach makes sure that the email address of the user is changed immediately. The user now has to use the new email address to login to salesforce.
