A salesforce admin can control what fields are on the page layout of an object. However there are certain fields in the page layout of an object that cannot be removed from the page layout. They are marked with a blue bullet in the layout. There is a simple workaround for this that we will discuss below.
Let’s take an example of the Lead Object. You can open the page layout for Leads by navigating to Setup >> App Setup >> Customize >> Leads >> Page Layouts. As you can see from the below screenshot, trying to remove the Email field from the page layout gives an error-
If we don’t want a certain group of users to view the email address of a lead, we can simply hide the field from the page layout assigned to those user profiles. To do this, navigate to Manage Users >> Profiles. Open the profile under which those users are assigned. Go to the Field Level Security section. Click on View for Lead. It will open the Lead Field-Level Security for that profile. Click on Edit; deselect the visible checkbox for the Email field and save. The Email field will now no longer be visible in the page layout for all the users belonging to that user profile.
