There are certain situations when the administrator of a salesforce organization would like to prevent any user from logging in the salesforce organization. This can happen when the administrator wants to perform some maintenance in the organization. The administrator would not want any user to login at this time.
The other case is when a user is no longer associated with the organization and has to be deactivated immediately. It may not be always possible for the administrator to deactivate the user account immediately. This is because the user may be a part of many workflow rules.
In both the above cases, the Freeze option provided by Salesforce in the Winter ’14 release comes to the rescue. After Winter ’14 release, it is now possible to freeze any user account immediately. This will prevent the user from logging in their salesforce accounts. The administrator can now freeze all the users when he wants to perform any maintenance work in the saleforce organization. This can be done by navigating to Setup >> Administration Setup >> Manage Users >> Users.
This will allow the user to be able to login to salesforce again. The administrator can do the same thing when a user is no longer associated with that organization. He can freeze the concerned user, make necessary changes in the workflow rules and then deactivate the user account. The freeze option thus helps the administrator to prevent access to a user immediately.
