Error exporting reports to excel in CRM

By | April 22, 2010

As per the standard sage CRM functionality, we can export reports to excel file. Sometimes we get errors while doing so. One of the most commonly occurring errors is that we are not able to see an Excel radio box option while exporting report. Most probably this occurs when excel is not installed on CRM application server.

Another error which occurs more frequently is an alert message saying ‘Excel Not Installed’. To resolve this you can follow the below mentioned very descriptive content posted on Sage CRM partner community forum. Check now

This blog talks about how impersonation settings can be set in CRM to run an excel related tasks. Also it is mentioned that the impersonate user needs to be the user who has installed the Microsoft office version on application server.

The above problem does not seem to occur if IUSR_ is being used for anonymous log in to your CRM under IIS. When we change this user to domain user account used for that machine, we may see the above problems occurring in CRM.

The main idea behind using Microsoft office applications in your web applications runs on the fact that the user used for anonymous login under IIS needs to be configured as an owner of Microsoft office application as well as you need to set the impersonation settings as mentioned in the post linked above.

Now if you are using domain user as mentioned above, how can you find if domain user account used for that machine belongs to owners list or you need to make it an owner? You just need to go to Microsoft Office installation folder under your Program Files, right click the same and go to Properties. Go to Security tab and click on Advanced button. There you can find the tab named Owner where you can find that domain user account and the change owner option to make it an owner. After making this account an owner of office applications and setting the same for anonymous login under IIS we need to make it an impersonate user under CRM as per the blog linked above. Following these steps you should be able to run office applications through CRM using domain user account.

There could be other reasons for the error also. They can be my subject of discussion for upcoming blogs.
