How to Employ Multi-stage Quality Control in Sage X3

By | January 23, 2012

Quality control involves the examination of a product, service or process for certain certified levels of quality. It is one of the core processes practiced by organizations. The quality control team identifies products or services that do not meet a company’s specified standards of quality.

If a problem is identified and it is understood that quality has been compromised, the job of a quality control team or professional may involve stopping/ halting production temporarily. Depending on the particular service or product, as well as the type of problem identified, production or implementation may not cease entirely.

Sage X3 delivers a fully integrated quality control process to rigorously enforce inspections and ensure your products comply to required characteristics, operational tolerances or expected results. Conduct inspections at key event point or throughout the production and packaging processes, and automatically quarantine suspicious or substandard items for further inspection or disposal. The rules-based orientation of Sage X3 ERP prevents usage of any item that lacks an acceptable quality status.

Let’s take a look at the configuration of the Quality Control Module.

The quality of the stock is identified by the use of status:

A = Accepted
Q = Quality Control
R = Rejected

The A/Q/R characters are predefined statuses in Sage X3. To manage multi-stage quality control, you can add a maximum of two characters to the predefined stages such as QM say Microbiological Test or QC – Chemical Test, etc. This can be defined as sub-status from Common Data > Product Tables > Stock statuses. These sub-statuses are then available in the Quality Control Screen to progress the Quality Testing.

The Quality Control statuses can be controlled from:

  1. Stock management rules (Parameters > Inventory > Stock management rules)
  2. Product categories (Common Data > Products > Product Categories)
  3. Products (Common Data > Products > Products)

Similarly, you can attach Technical Sheets to a Product/Product Categories to test a product, it is then necessary to have responses to the questionnaire on the basis of the Technical Sheet attached and move inventory from Q status to A or R statuses.

The Quality Control process in Sage X3 is feature rich and users can leverage much more with this module.
