Project snapshots in Project management

By | August 30, 2021

Project management involves the planning and organization of a company’s resources to move a specific task, event, or duty towards completion. It can involve a one-time project or an ongoing activity, and resources managed include personnel, finances, technology, and intellectual property.

On a very basic level, project management includes the planning, initiation, execution, monitoring, and closing of a project.

In X3, the special function “Project snapshots” is provided to obtain a real-time top-level overview of data associated with the project. You can execute this function at any specific time to get an overview.

Navigate to: All > Project > Snapshot> Project snapshots A project snapshot is based on the actual status of a project at the point it is run. It provides similar data to that provided for a project overview.

Sections on screen:

  1. Home: The Project snapshots function contains a Home section in which you define a “snapshot header” with a Snapshot list section that contains a table of all extracted snapshots.

A snapshot header is a prerequisite to run a snapshot. The snapshot header contains the project code and the snapshot code to be used each time the data is extracted. Once header is created you can use “Extract snapshot” button to extract project data as and when required.

  1. Snapshot lists: This table holds the list of snapshots extracted each time to review the project data. Also, each snapshot has automatically generated unique number. This section is used to view the list of snapshots that have been extracted for this snapshot header.

Following are two limitations.

  • You cannot use this function to consolidate data for different projects.
  • Access to project financial expense detail at the cost type level is blocked.

Hope this blog helps you in tracking your financial status more efficiently.
