Sage Enterprise Intelligence is an intuitive business intelligence solution integrated with the Sage business management system that helps business users spend less time analyzing and reporting, making faster, more informed decisions. It provides all users with a simple solution for self-sufficient access and analysis of data, eliminating the need for disparate tools and expertise and reducing decision-making time.
There might be possibilities where there would be a need to transfer SEI data models from one central point to another or to back up the existing data models before making extensive changes. SEI gives administrators the choice to create a template that can be exported to a physical file. This file can later be imported into every other SEI machine or imported within the same central point as a way of restoring the system to its old state.
1. Exporting a template:
The ‘Export Template’ option allows you to export any SEI objects (Data Models, Views, Prompt, Global Parameters, etc.) to a zip file in order to be imported into any SEI installation. Follow the steps below to export a template:
- In the ‘Administration’ section, click the ‘Templates’ drop-down menu in the left pane.
- Select ‘Export Template’. The ‘Data Models’ tab displays the execution report related to the installation of this specific object.
- Select the object from the menu on the left. The ‘Select All’ option will automatically select all the objects.
By default, when selecting a Data Model, all the related objects will be selected (Views, Prompts, etc.).
4. Select one or more of the related objects on the right. Clicking the ‘link’ icon as highlighted in the above figure, will display all of the related dependencies.
5. In the lower right-hand corner, enter a template name and a description.
6. Click ‘Export’. The file will be automatically saved into your ‘Downloads’ folder.
2. Managing a template:
- In the ‘Administration’ section, click on the ‘Templates’ drop-down menu in the left pane.
- Select ‘Manage Template’.
This option is used to view all the installed templates. Refer the above figure.
To remove specific ‘Data Models’, do the following step:
- Select the object by ticking the checkbox and click on ‘Uninstall’ in the lower right hand corner.
3. Importing a Template:
This option is used to import new templates into your current environment or to update existing templates with a new version. To import an installation template, follow the below steps:
- In the ‘Administration’ section, click the ‘Templates’ drop-down menu in the left pane.
- Select ‘Import Template’.
3. Select root folder where the templates will be saved. If a folder does not exist, create one now.
4. In the lower right hand corner, click ‘Next’ (as shown in the above figure).
5. Click on ‘Select Files’… to import your ‘Installation Template.zip’ file.
6. Map the data source from the imported templates to the data source and click ‘Next’ (as shown in the above figure)
7. The ‘Import Template’ page displays all the objects that were included in the ‘Installation Template’ file.
Select the appropriate import option for each object: add, skip or update (as shown in the above figure)
By using this you can efficiently use Templates in SEI.
