Work Order REL unit update customization in Sage X3

By | December 28, 2022

In Sage X3, one of the client’s requirements was to have a way to quickly convert their work order REL unit (release product unit) from stocking to packing unit for the header product.

To provide them with a business solution for the above requirement we developed a new screen and a button on the Work order screen that’ll both work in dynamically converting the work order product quantities to their respective Packing Units. To learn more about it, let’s take you through its working and user operations:

We’ll be referencing the following screen from Sage X3 for this:

Sales Order: All -> Sales -> Orders -> Orders (GESSOH)
Enterprise Planning (WOS): All -> Manufacturing -> Planning -> Enterprise Planning (FUNGBENCH)
Work Order: All -> Manufacturing -> Planning -> Work Order (GESMFG)

Refer the screenshots for reference:

-The Sales Orders were created with respect to the Sales units (SAL) that is, NOS as shown in Fig. 1

-However upon getting the Work Order Suggestions after MPS Processing, the WOS are created in the stocking unit (STK) that is, KGS as shown in Fig. 2.

-Our customization comprises a button functionality on the Work order screen that’ll perform immediate REL unit conversions, Release quantity conversion, and displays an informative message upon its completion as shown in Fig. 3,Fig. 4 & Fig. 5.

-To provide a step above this we developed a new screen “Work Order REL Update” as shown in Fig. 6 with minimal inputs from users. The purpose of this will be the same as the Work Order button functionality however, this provides a mass record update unlike the latter.

-Both the customization parts offer several validations with error-specific message boxes aimed at reducing manual errors in the process as shown in Fig. 4 & Fig. 7.
