How to resolve ‘selected location type is not authorized’

As a user of the Sage X3 V12 software, you may encounter various error messages during your operations. One such error message is “Selected location type is not authorized.” This error typically occurs when you attempt to perform a task or operation in Sage X3 V12 using a location type that is not permitted or authorized within the system. Sage X3 V12 has predefined location types with specific purposes and restrictions, and it is important to choose the appropriate location type for your desired action.

 In Sage X3, a location type refers to a categorization or classification assigned to a specific physical or logical location within the system. It helps to identify and manage different types of locations such as warehouses, stores, production areas. The location types contribute to the setup of the management of the stock locations.

They are used to:

1.Codify the locations of the warehouse sites,

2.Group the locations with similar characteristics according to certain criteria, (authorized quality statuses, dimensions, storage constraints, etc.),

3.Give the rules for the assignment of the locations to the products, in the receipt to stock movements.

Key Features:  

When I try to create a miscellaneous receipt with status ‘A’ at the location type ‘LOC’, the following error pops up. Refer the below figure.

        By understanding the nature of this error and following the necessary steps, you can effectively troubleshoot and resolve the “Selected location type is not authorized” error in Sage X3 V12, allowing you to continue your operations smoothly and efficiently within the software.

Steps:-

  1. Access the Common Data – Product Tables – Location Type section in the software.
  2. Search for the stock site or location type you are working with. Refer the below figure.

3.Check the authorized sub-statuses for that location type. Refer the below figure.

  • In the above screenshot 3, the location type LOC has authorized sub statuses as Q and R, which is why it does not allow for A-status transactions.
  • 5. If the desired sub-status (in this case, “A”) is not authorized, add it to the list of authorized sub-statuses. Refer to the below figure for a better understanding.

  • Save the changes. Now try to create the Miscellaneous receipts.
  • By adding the necessary authorization for the desired sub-status, you should be able to proceed with the intended actions involving that location type in Sage X3 V12 without encountering the “Selected location type is not authorized” error.Refer the below figure.
